Highlight of the week
Thousands of Google documents were leaked, revealing insights into its ranking factors and algorithms. The leak highlights how link diversity, brand recognition, and user clicks play crucial roles in content ranking.
Google has leaked over 2,500 pages of API documentation containing 14,014 API attributes, revealing its use of click data in its systems like NavBoost and Glue. SEO practitioners Erfan Azimi and Rand Fishkin found that Google filters out clicks it doesn't want to count in its ranking systems and includes those it does. The data also suggests that Google measures the length of clicks and impressions, creates site links based on the most clicked URLs in Google Chrome, and whitelists certain authorities and sites. The leak is interesting as Google has previously denied considering click data in search ranking.
